Swingers Invading Reality TV
The production company Lionsgate, who is famous for the controversial show Weeds about drug dealing in suburbia, wants to introduce a new taboo series to television called Bedroom Community. This reality series revolves around a group of suburban swingers.
Producer of the show Eli Frankel has been quoted on the show saying, ”The world of swingers is mythologized in American pop culture, but very few people outside of it have seen it”. And many would be surprised looking in, he said. “What we have seen on shows about swingers are primarily older hippies, fringe people who are a little bit dirty. What we found are elite groups of people in upscale communities who are good-looking and have money and access. That glossy version is much more interesting to watch.”
Apparently casting for the show took quite a while. Convincing and reminding the couples that they would not be exploited, but in fact be documented as normal people living their normal lives who just happen to engage in relationships that some people may consider to be “on the edge” .
The show will focus on family relationships and will follow each couple in their living rooms, not bedrooms. ”It is not a show about sex but about people and their relationships,” Frankel said.
